Body found of swimmer who went missing Saturday in Saylorville Lake 'Party Cove'

A man swimming in Saylorville Lake was reported missing Saturday night. Search crews found his body Sunday morning.

The Polk County Sheriff's Office learned that a man may have gone underwater at Saylorville Lake around 7:16 p.m. According to a release, the man was swimming in the southeast area of the lake that's commonly known as "Party Cove."

Witnesses told officials the man was in the water and then could not be located. Rescue personnel searched until sunset, when conditions became too dangerous to continue. The search resumed at 8:30 a.m. Sunday, and the body was found 40 minutes later.

The man was found 15 to 20 yards from the shore, in about 10 to 15 feet of water, the release said. Officials have identified the man, but his name is being withheld as they notify family members.
